Minnesota Twins Enter the Grand Slam Record Books on Tuesday Night

The Minnesota Twins rolled the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday night 11-3, hitting yet another grand slam in the process.

The slam, hit by left-handed hitter Matt Wallner, was the sixth grand slam of the year hit by Twins' rookies.

Per @OptaSTATS on social media:

The @Twins have now had 6 grand slams by rookies this season (4 by Royce Lewis, 2 by Matt Wallner). That's the most grand slams by any team's rookies in a single season in MLB history.

Wallner went 1-for-3 with the grand slam. He scored two runs as well. In 201 at-bats, he's hitting .249 this year with 13 homers, 39 RBI and two stolen bases.

Unfortunately, Lewis is on the injured list with a hamstring issue.

The Twins are now 84-73 on the season. They've already wrapped up the American League Central crown and are destined for the No. 3 seed in the looming American League playoffs.

As a result, they will need to play a wild card series in the first round. They don't know who they'll play yet but it could be any of the Toronto Blue Jays, Houston Astros or Seattle Mariners.

The Twins will play the A's again on Wednesday night.

First pitch from Target Field is set for 7:40 p.m. ET as Joey Estes (OAK) battles against Pablo Lopez (MIN).

Estes is 0-1 with a 9.64 ERA and just made his major league debut while Lopez is 11-8 with a 3.61 ERA. He's already been named the Game 1 starter for the Twins in the playoffs.
