Michigan State's Malik Hall returning to school for fifth season

Forward Malik Hall had decided that he's returning to Michigan State for his fifth season of college basketball eligibility.

“Our Sweet 16 run was fun this year, but we fell short of our own expectations. Although I battled a foot injury most of the season, I worked hard to help us be the best team we could, but I was left with a feeling of wanting more," Hall said in a social media post (h/t the Detroit News).

“I think Michigan State basketball has the opportunity to be very special next season and I’m really excited to announce that I will be returning for my final season.”

At 6-foot-8 and 220 pounds, Hall averaged 8.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game for Michigan State last season. As he mentioned, he struggled with a foot injury for much of the campaign, but his production did remain pretty consistent year-over-year. As a junior, Hall averaged 8.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per contest.

Hall will be an important veteran member of an MSU squad that, notably, is going to be adding quite a bit of talent via the recruiting trail.

Tom Izzo's 2023 recruiting class was ranked No. 3 nationally behind just Kentucky and Duke, per 247Sports. It features two five-star players in 6-foot-10 center Xavier Booker and point guard Jeremy Fears.

Guard Tyson Walker, who was a star in March Madness for the Spartans, also recently announced that he'll be returning for his fifth season at Michigan State.
